Fernando Beltrán has left the door open to standing as the PSOE candidate for mayor of Zaragoza. The PSOE is preparing its 2027 primaries, which Lola Ranera has also not ruled out contesting. The current spokesperson for Zaragoza City Council had previously said she was not closing the door on leading the Socialist ticket again.
Zaragoza neighborhood big-head troupes have been affected by a municipal decision that changes their plans for the upcoming Pilar Festival. Zaragoza City Council apparently will not authorize district troupes to parade during the celebrations, seeking to reserve the festival for the Municipal Giants, Big Heads and Little Horses Troupe. The decision has caused discontent among the groups, which have begun mobilizing just weeks before the festivities.
Zaragoza wants sport to move beyond gyms and into the city’s parks, squares and other public spaces. Drought and this summer’s wildfires have increased the drinking water deliveries carried out by the Provincial Council’s firefighters. In total, 1.5 million liters of water have been distributed across around 20 communities. It is the largest delivery since the DPH fire service was established in 2021. The tunnel on Paseo Isabel la Católica will reopen to traffic this Friday from 6 p.m., after Infrastructure Conservation workers completed most of the repairs required following the rupture of an asbestos-cement water pipe. Zaragoza tram users should be aware of a partial interruption on Line 1 next Monday, September 21, due to track maintenance work in Valdespartera. Zaragoza en Común has called on Natalia Chueca’s government to review and provisionally suspend the three recently granted licenses for new gas stations in Zaragoza, two of them in Valdespartera and another in Picarral. Adapted taxis in the Aragonese capital face one of the main challenges in renewing the fleet: switching to electric vehicles. In addition to the still limited supply of models prepared for this service, the problem lies in the high investment cost. “An adapted electric vehicle usually costs well over €50,000,” explains Sergio Artal, president of the Zaragoza Taxi Cooperative, which is calling for public aid to help professionals make the switch.
Zaragoza’s image during the Pilar Festivities will largely depend on a meeting on September 24. On August 31, after returning from vacation, Edu Fernández put up an unexpected sign at Bar San Petersburgo. After 41 years behind the counter, taking orders, making burgers and serving customers who have become part of the bar’s family, he announced that he wanted to leave the business. Around 300 Valdespartera residents took to the streets again this Tuesday to protest two planned gas stations in the neighborhood, with banners, whistles and pots. The demonstration, the second organized by residents, focused on the area around La Sabina roundabout, where work has already begun on one of the stations, just meters from homes and a children’s playground.
