The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m. The first session will be cycling, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., followed by a Zumdance class from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and, finally, a doubles DEKA final from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Admission will be free, and no prior registration will be required. Organizers also expect the dance class to attract between 70 and 80 people, while around 20 or 30 participants will be able to take part in the DEKA event, which requires equipment such as dumbbells, balls and mats.
The initiative aims to take fitness out of gyms and bring it closer to neighborhoods and public spaces. "This started as a small idea and has now become something much bigger," explained Cristina Dassaeva of Synergym, one of the participating organizations. The event will also have a family component, with games and face painting for children while adults exercise.
MORE OUTDOOR SPORTS AHEAD OF 2027
Sports councilor Félix Brocate placed the initiative within the program linked to Zaragoza's designation as European Capital of Sport 2027. "There has never been so much sport in the city," he said, adding that preparations are already underway for new initiatives to open up more spaces for physical activity in the coming months.
Ángel Luis García, from Inacua La Granja, highlighted that these events will allow residents of San José, Las Fuentes and other neighborhoods to discover "all the benefits" of this type of exercise. The idea, he explained, is for the experience to also encourage participants to continue exercising afterward.
After this first event at Parque Grande, Fitness in the Parks will continue at five other locations in Zaragoza through May 2027. The program involves Synergym, Inacua La Granja and David Lloyd and aims to offer free, instructor-led activities for people of all ages.
