The news has caught the attention of people who frequented this area of central Zaragoza, especially local residents who used the small shop as a regular place to make purchases. “There were always people there in the mornings, especially older people and those carrying shopping baskets,” said one customer familiar with the business.
The shop stood out precisely because of its unusual selection. In addition to standard stationery products, the premises sold stickers, collectibles and second-hand books. “It was very quirky,” the resident recalls, also highlighting the owner’s manner: “The woman was very kind.”
CLOSURE AMID SAN MIGUEL SQUARE’S TRANSFORMATION
The closure also comes at a particularly significant moment for this part of Zaragoza. San Miguel Square has spent months undergoing comprehensive renovation work on the Coso and the square itself, projects that have affected residents and local businesses for months. The municipal plan includes a redesign of the urban space, with new pedestrian areas, trees, street furniture and infrastructure.
The works, which began in October 2025 and were initially expected to take around six months, have continued for almost a year. In recent months, businesses and residents have pointed to the difficulties the construction has caused for activity in the area.
For this reason, the closure of the small shop is particularly striking for those who had hoped the square would soon return to its usual level of activity. “It’s a shame, just now that they’re going to open all that up and more people might come,” the customer laments.
For now, the shop remains closed and the premises are being offered for transfer. Its future will depend on whether someone decides to continue the business and revive a small store that, despite its discreet presence, had regular customers among San Miguel residents.
