The work was particularly complex because of the characteristics of the underpass, whose limited height made it necessary to remove the road surface to access the affected area. The work included cleaning and treating the site, repairing the pipe and subsequently replacing the pavement. The asphalt was completed on Wednesday afternoon and, once the 72 hours required for the concrete to set properly have elapsed, traffic can be restored.
Until the reopening, private vehicles and taxis heading toward Outpatient Clinics or the General Emergency Department from the city-center direction can access the area normally. However, those traveling from the center toward the city exit will have to continue to the Z-30 roundabout, make a U-turn and return toward the hospital entrance. Emergency vehicles have had direct access guaranteed at all times by turning across the tram tracks, so the incident has not caused any disruption to the hospital's response times.
Although the structural work has been fully completed, workers will continue in the area over the coming days with cleaning and cosmetic improvement work. Friday's reopening will restore normality to one of the most important access routes to the Miguel Servet area and help ease traffic congestion in Zaragoza as September routines resume.
THURSDAY, CONNECTION AT EL PORTILLO
Meanwhile, as part of the Urban Development Project for the area around the former El Portillo station, the traffic connection between Paseo María Agustín and Calle Escrivá de Balaguer will be restored this Thursday, September 17, from 9:30 a.m., following the installation of the new sewer collector. Traffic will also resume its usual direction in the lane next to Marie Curie, although parking will be prohibited on the side with even-numbered addresses.
The bike lane will remain closed in both directions between Borao and the Zagríes roundabout. As for public transport, routes 21, 31 and 51 and the Tourist Bus will resume their official routes, while route 22 will travel along Escrivá de Balaguer to the Ciudadanía Roundabout to turn around and head back toward Anselmo Clavé.
