Thousands of students returned to the classrooms of the University of Zaragoza this Monday, eager to face a new academic year but sad to say goodbye to their holidays for good. For some, it was their first experience as university students, while others are beginning another year on the institution’s different campuses.
Students at IES Martina Bescós in Cuarte de Huerva will have no complementary or extracurricular activities during the 2026-2027 school year. The school’s Teachers’ Council has agreed to suspend these activities after analyzing the new regulations approved by the Government of Aragon for outings, study trips, exchanges and educational mobility programs outside public schools.
The plan to introduce subsidized Baccalaureate education in Aragon was one of the “most contentious” issues of the past school year. Following the announcement by the Government of Aragon, the public education sector took to the streets repeatedly to stop the new model and filed an appeal backed by 17 organizations, which ultimately led to the measure being “temporarily suspended.”
