The red alert affects Depresión del Jalón, Jiloca-Gallocanta, Moncayo and Aranda, Montes Universales, Muelas del Ebro, Western Pyrenees, Eastern Pyrenees, Central Pre-Pyrenees, Western Pre-Pyrenees, Eastern Pre-Pyrenees, Ports of Beceite, Rodeno, Central Iberian Ranges, Western Somontano, Eastern Somontano, Southern Somontano and Turia.
High-intensity fires could break out in these areas, fueled by the terrain and wind. In addition, the risk will increase over the weekend, when the red alert will extend to almost all of Aragon.
LIGHTING FIRES AND USING FIREWORKS PROHIBITED
The red alert entails a series of bans and restrictions to reduce the risk of wildfires. These include lighting fires in open spaces, with permits for burning and other cultural or recreational uses of fire temporarily suspended.
It is also prohibited to light fires in recreational areas, roadside rest areas or camping sites, even when they have been specifically designated for that purpose. Likewise, introducing or using pyrotechnic materials in forest environments and throwing or leaving burning objects is prohibited. Sporting events and public activities in forest areas are also suspended unless their authorization expressly allows them to take place at this alert level.
RESTRICTIONS ON THE USE OF MACHINERY
Using equipment or machinery that could cause deflagrations, sparks or electrical discharges is prohibited in forests and within a 400-meter buffer zone around them. The regulations include some exceptions, such as certain agricultural work, beekeeping activities and urgent operations to restore essential services.
In the case of cereal harvesting and baling, if the work is carried out less than 400 meters from a continuous forest area larger than 100 hectares, it must take place outside the period between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Rapid access to firefighting resources must also be guaranteed, such as equipment carrying at least 1,000 liters of water or a tractor fitted with a suitable tillage implement.
