The minister explained that on August 3 they requested from the Ministry of Education the documents certifying that teachers from the Moroccan Government are Education Ministry civil servants in Morocco and have no convictions for sexual offences. They also requested access to the curricula, content and competencies in order to reliably verify their respect for democratic values, tolerance, intercultural education and the sociocultural inclusion of students in the Aragonese and Spanish systems and society.
In the absence of a response from the Ministry, the decision was taken to scrap the programme, which was also a commitment included in the coalition agreement. “So there is also an issue of classroom safety and certification that the Spanish Government has failed to address,” the Education Minister said.
The Arabic Language and Moroccan Culture Programme had been taught in ten Aragonese schools: CEIP Aljafería, CEIP Antonio Beltrán Martínez, CEIP José Camón Aznar, CEIP Luis Vives, CEIP Marcos Frechín, CEIP Puerta de Sancho, CEIP Ramón Sainz de Varanda, CEIP Tío Jorge, Colegio Cantín y Gamboa and Colegio El Carmen y San José.
