Following the TSJA ruling, the Department of Education decided not to appeal the precautionary measures and to restart the subsidization process from scratch for the 2027-2028 school year, “with all the legal guarantees needed to provide families with certainty.”
As part of this process, the Education Department says it is taking the first steps toward establishing a “Decree on subsidized education,” as other Autonomous Communities with subsidized Baccalaureate education have done. “The aim is to structure the entire system, since national legislation is not comprehensive enough to legally guarantee all the issues addressed by subsidized education,” Education Minister Carmen Susín explained on Monday.
To draw up the decree on educational subsidies, the Government of Aragon has opened the draft to public consultation. Susín said this is a “mandatory procedure” that must be completed before work begins on drafting a decree. Once the legislation is approved, Aragon “will move forward with subsidizing Baccalaureate education,” which it hopes to launch in the 2027-2028 school year.
Susín reiterated that the measure seeks to “guarantee parents’ freedom of choice”: “I want the left to explain to me why they are afraid of parents choosing freely.” In this regard, the government will “respect” any appeals filed by the opposition. “We live in a democratic state, and this party respects the rules of the rule of law.”
