The allocation was approved this Friday by the Plenary of the General Conference on University Policy. Across Spain, the autonomous communities will receive €149.67 million under the program in 2026.
94 ASSISTANT PROFESSORS WITH PHDs IN ARAGON
The funding will cover the hiring of 94 assistant professors with PhDs in Aragon, a position intended to strengthen university faculties and facilitate the recruitment and stabilization of teaching and research staff at public universities.
The Ministry highlights that this is the first time the Spanish Government has directly funded part of university faculty salaries through the autonomous communities, despite responsibility for this area having been transferred to the regions.
MORE THAN 5,600 NEW HIRES ACROSS SPAIN
The María Goyri Program envisages the gradual hiring of a total of 5,638 assistant professors with PhDs at Spanish public universities by 2028, 70% more than the number employed during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Of these positions, the central government will fund 3,400 hires over six years, at an estimated total cost of more than €900 million. The autonomous communities will take on a further 2,236 positions, with an estimated additional contribution of around €600 million. The agreement to distribute the funds was supported by all the autonomous communities except Illes Balears, which voted against it.
