The situation has changed in just a few months: in July, social services had identified 12 makeshift shelters and 12 residents in the area, while the space next to the wall is now practically fully occupied.

The increase in the number of people taking shelter at this location in the neighborhood coincides with concern over the presence of rats around Palomar Park. Zaragoza City Council has been taking action for months and attributes the persistence of the problem to the unsanitary conditions in the area.
The situation at Castillo Palomar is part of a broader problem involving inadequate housing in Zaragoza. According to available data, the Aragonese capital has identified 51 shantytown sites where nearly 200 people live in extremely poor conditions. In Delicias, social services confirmed in July that some of the people living there had come from other parts of the city.
