Parque Goya holds Democratic Memory events: full programme

The theme of this year’s commemoration is "The Effects of Forgetting", providing a space for reflection and debate on democratic memory, collective history and experiences of social and neighborhood activism. The programme brings together four activities combining literature, analysis of the application of memory legislation, the recovery of neighborhood struggles and the participation of younger generations. This is the full programme for 2026.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4: THE MEMORY OF BELCHITE

The first event will take place on Wednesday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m. in the Magdalena Lasala Library at IES Clara Campoamor Rodríguez. The opening session of "Reading Together" will focus on the novel ‘I Return to Belchite’, by José María Maldonado, published by Pregunta in 2026. The initiative invites attendees to discuss and analyze the work from the perspectives of literature and memory.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12: THE DEMOCRATIC MEMORY LAW

The second event will take place on Thursday, November 12, at 7:00 p.m. The Parque Goya Neighborhood House will host the talk "Experiences of Non-Compliance with Aragon’s Democratic Memory Law: Symbols at Street Level", presented by Armando and Guillermo.

The session will address experiences related to non-compliance with Aragon’s democratic memory regulations and the presence of symbols in public spaces.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19: PANEL DISCUSSION ON NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVISM

The recovery of the memory of neighborhood movements will be the focus of the third event, scheduled for Thursday, November 19, at 6:00 p.m. at the Parque Goya Neighborhood House. The panel discussion "Neighborhood Activism During Francoism and the Transition" will feature Simeón Híjar, Teresa Iriarte and Santiago Villamayor, three key figures for understanding the neighborhood movement of that period.

The event will focus on experiences of neighborhood organization and participation during two fundamental periods in recent history, helping to recover and share a collective memory linked to social struggles.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27: YOUNG VOICES

The 4th Democratic Memory events will conclude on Friday, November 27, at 6:00 p.m. at IES Clara Campoamor Rodríguez, with the discussion "Welcome, The Black Ball". The activity will provide an opportunity to discuss the film through the voices of current students and former students of the school.

The discussion will be coordinated by teachers Gustavo Arce and Irene Murillo and aims to incorporate the perspective of younger generations into reflection on memory.
