Rocinante, Dulcinea and Avellaneda are some of the protagonists of this distinctive look at the world of Don Quixote. The production revisits Rocinante’s helplessness, Dulcinea’s endless wait and the figure of Avellaneda, author of the so-called "false Quixote." Andrés also appears, a young man who develops a peculiar aversion to wandering knights, along with a comedian convinced that he is none other than Don Quixote himself.
With these characters at the center, "The Complete Leftovers of Don Quixote" pays tribute to Cervantes’ novel through irony, humor, tenderness and emotion. The production also revives some of the original text’s devices and adds an element of its own: music created and performed live.
TWO CREATORS WHO REINTERPRET THE CLASSICS THROUGH COMEDY
José Luis Esteban, an actor and writer, and Naiel Ibarrola, a musician and audiovisual artist, are behind "The Complete Leftovers of Don Quixote," a creative project they have developed together. Both draw on major works of world literature to bring them to the stage with a contemporary perspective and through comedy.
The two creators previously explored this path with "The Odyssey," a production nominated for Best Breakthrough Production at the 2024 MAX Awards. Now, in their approach to Cervantes, José Luis Esteban is responsible for the text and performance, while Naiel Ibarrola has created the original live music, graphics and illustrations.
