Trick-or-treating on Friday or Saturday? Zaragoza families face a Halloween dilemma

Halloween is approaching and, this year, the calendar has sparked a small debate among families in Zaragoza, especially those with young children. When should they go out to ask for candy: on Friday, October 30, after school, or on Saturday, October 31, the official date of the celebration? The coincidence with the weekend has raised questions in different parts of the city, where initiatives by businesses, associations and festival committees do not always follow the same schedule.
Trick-or-treating on Friday or Saturday? Zaragoza families face a Halloween dilemma

The uncertainty has spread to neighborhood Facebook groups, where parents are looking for information to organize plans for their children. In La Jota, one resident asked when stores would be handing out candy, after noting that schools would celebrate Halloween on Friday. Among the responses, a local business, Retrotronica, said it would hand out sweets that day so children could enjoy the activity after leaving school.

Similar questions have also been raised in Las Fuentes. "Will candy be handed out on October 31 for Halloween? I don't know what I've heard, the 30th, but it's actually the 31st," one resident asked. The responses reflect the same confusion: while some initiatives are being brought forward to Friday, others are keeping the celebration on Saturday, forcing families to check what activities are being organized in each area.

NEIGHBORHOODS COMBINE ACTIVITIES ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

In fact, the Yo Compro en Las Fuentes Merchants' Association has announced that the festival committee, represented by Ana Gimeno, will go out on Friday to hand out candy, as in previous years. The organization also said that businesses in the neighborhood will take part in the traditional "trick or treat" and that it will publish a list of participating stores. A day later, on December 31 itself, at 5:30 p.m., the Las Fuentes Youth Zone and the festival committee have scheduled Halloween 2026 at the neighborhood's Youth Zone, located in the Salvador Allende Civic Center.

Meanwhile, in Valdefierro, the neighborhood association has announced an activity to get things started: a screening of the film Coco at the civic center. The event will offer an afternoon with a Halloween theme before the holiday night, although it does not in itself announce any candy distribution.

In short, although Halloween is celebrated on Saturday, October 31, children's activities appear likely to be brought forward to Friday to fit around school schedules and make participation easier. The key will be checking which businesses are joining the "trick or treat" and on what date they will do so in each area of Zaragoza.
