The first event will be a roundtable on housing and land speculation, taking place this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Sala Venecia, in the Torrero neighborhood. The meeting will address the impact of investment funds, megaprojects and urban development pressures on family farming, access to housing and natural resources.
The discussion will be moderated by Jorge Bielsa and will include representatives of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers of Aragon (UAGA), Zaragoza’s Tenants’ Union, the "It’s not drought, it’s looting" collective and the neighborhood platform itself. The event aims to bring together different experiences and highlight the need to strengthen citizen mobilization in defense of the land, housing and the sustainable use of natural resources in the face of speculative processes.
SATURDAY PROTEST
Another of the week’s highlights will be a street procession dedicated to the Pinar’s biodiversity. It will set off from Plaza de las Canteras at 6 p.m. and pass through several streets in the neighborhood. The initiative seeks to showcase the natural wealth of Zaragoza’s largest forest and demand a Management and Revitalization Plan for the area, a request the platform has been making for some time and which, it says, has still not materialized.
The 2026 Fiestas del Pinar will conclude on Saturday with a protest against data centers, featuring a march from the Torrero neighborhood. The event is being organized by more than ten social, neighborhood and environmental groups and aims to connect Aragon’s local demands with a national and European movement. The protest will be held under the slogans "Aragon stands up against megadata centers" and "It’s not drought, it’s looting".
