The process begins when a report is received about a bicycle that may have been abandoned. From there, the Local Police checks whether it has been in that condition for more than a month and, if this is confirmed, publishes the case in the Official Gazette of the Province of Zaragoza (BOPZ), giving the owner the opportunity to claim it.
THIS IS HOW ABANDONED BICYCLES ARE REMOVED FROM PUBLIC STREETS
If no one claims the bicycle after this procedure, it is removed, as established by the new Civic Ordinance. The images shared on social media show several bicycles with punctured or deflated tires, rusted parts and clear signs of deterioration.
An operator uses an angle grinder to cut the locks securing the bicycles to the bike racks. The bicycles are then removed and loaded onto a van already carrying other vehicles that have been collected. This is intended to free up parking spaces for bicycles that are actually being used and prevent these areas from becoming places where bikes are abandoned.
