This agreement seeks to simplify the administrative structure, reduce costs and strengthen the promotion of economic activity, employment and talent development. The merger already has the legal backing of the University of Zaragoza, and the new body will be created to "boost economic activity in all its forms, reduce an unnecessary management structure and ensure effectiveness and efficiency for the well-being of citizens." The aim is to grow Zaragoza's local economy and tourism, although approval by the municipal Plenary during the first quarter of the year is still pending.
Lorén and Torres said they were very "satisfied" to have reached this agreement to "move forward with the municipal reorganization" and implement "the economic policies requested by Zaragoza residents."
REDUCTION OF MANAGEMENT STRUCTURES
The only measure secured through this merger is that one of the two managers of the boards will not remain in office because the position is considered "unnecessary." However, no layoffs are expected among the staff of either entity.
The Tourism Board currently has 17 employees and Imefez has 74, and no staff members are expected to be dismissed.
The location of the new body has not yet been determined, but it has been confirmed that the new office "will have a new catalogue of services that will be fully updated."
