The works have now reached the main entrance to the university campus. This new phase directly affects access from Archbishop Apaolaza Street toward San Francisco Square, which will be open only as an entrance route via the available lane in the square, traveling in the opposite direction, with priority given over vehicles leaving speed hump 3570.
To facilitate vehicles leaving the site, normal one-way traffic was restored on San Francisco de Borja Street from 9:30 a.m. this Friday. The change was coordinated with the Local Police because it affects the traffic-light sequence at the intersection with Violante de Hungría.
TRAFFIC REORGANIZATION
As a result of this reorganization, vehicles will access the University via San Francisco Square or Domingo Miral Street, and will leave via the latter or Menéndez Pelayo Street. To facilitate these traffic flows and restore the signage overnight, parking is prohibited along the entire length of San Francisco de Borja Street —except for motorcycles and bicycles— and at numbers 13, 14 and 15 in the square. The bicycle station will remain operational.
The works, awarded to the company Áridos y Excavaciones Carmelo Lobera, began in May and affect approximately 570 meters of street, with a total investment of close to 2.9 million euros. The renovation aims to transform one of the district's main thoroughfares, adding wider sidewalks, new green areas, improved accessibility and LED lighting, as well as renovating the water-supply and sewerage networks. The municipal schedule envisaged that the street would be fully completed and reopened to traffic in March 2027.
