DPZ allocates €800,000 to improve care homes and day centers in 14 municipalities

Municipal care homes and day centers in 14 towns across Zaragoza province will receive funding from the Zaragoza Provincial Council to improve their facilities and cover operating costs. The provincial institution has allocated €800,000 to the scheme, which is aimed at municipally owned centers managed directly by town councils.

The aim is to ensure that older people can receive the care they need close to their families. Mercedes Trébol, the councillor responsible for Social Welfare, stressed that these services allow them to be cared for “without having to leave their community” and explained that the funding will be used to renew equipment, improve facilities and meet the centers’ needs.

FUNDING FOR CENTER OPERATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS

The budget is divided equally between two subsidy schemes: one for regular operating expenses and another for investments. The latter can fund projects such as replacing furniture, installing air conditioning, replacing windows, and improving accessibility and safety. The call is open to town councils in the province, excluding Zaragoza city.

Trébol said that older people deserve to experience this stage of life “with dignity, autonomy and the best possible care.” She therefore highlighted the importance of having services that are nearby, accessible and adapted to their needs. She also noted that care homes and day centers help combat loneliness and improve users’ quality of life.

THE MUNICIPALITIES BENEFITING AND THE PLANNED PROJECTS

Alfajarín will receive €35,000 to replace windows, while Añón de Moncayo will receive €58,983 for operations and improvements to equipment and facilities. Asín, Biota, Calatayud and Daroca will each receive €59,000. In addition to covering regular expenses, the funding will allow furniture to be replaced in Asín, facilities to be upgraded in Biota, accessibility, safety and living conditions to be improved in Calatayud, and part of the Daroca center to be fitted with climate control.

Fabara, La Muela, Orés and Villamayor de Gállego will each receive €59,000 for operations and equipment, furniture or the renovation of outdoor areas. Magallón will receive €58,900 for current expenses and improvements to climate control, hot water and fire prevention; Tobed, €44,900 for operations; Torres de Berrellén, €35,000 for equipment and energy efficiency; and Zuera, €23,966 for regular expenses, air conditioning and adjustable-bed components.
