The project, which began in October 2025, has a planned duration of 15 months, meaning the municipal timetable puts its completion in January 2027. The project represents an investment of more than 7.2 million euros and covers more than 15,700 square metres between Coso and San Miguel Square.
The refurbishment aims to provide more space for pedestrians, improve accessibility and add new green areas and street furniture. The street will have two central traffic lanes, one in each direction, and will retain the existing cycle lane, while the pavements will be widened.
SAN MIGUEL SQUARE PARTIALLY REOPENED TO TRAFFIC
San Miguel Square regained much of its activity several weeks ago after the main transformation of the space was completed. However, the reopening of the area does not yet mean that traffic has fully returned to normal: vehicles can cross it in the direction of the Puente de Hierro, while access from Plaza de España remains closed due to the Coso roadworks.
The square now has a new layout, with more pedestrian space, trees, planters and benches, as well as an interactive water pergola designed to cool the surroundings during the warmer months. The underground water supply and drainage networks have also been renewed.
