Two Organic Farmers from Aragon Honored for Training Young People

Learning from those who already work the land and care for livestock is one way to help young people enter farming. With this goal in mind, the Cultiva program was launched by Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, recognizing two organic farmers from Aragon for training and supporting new generations.

Luis Lascorz and Julio Yagüe are among the ten operators of model farms rated most highly by the young people who took part in the 2025 call. The awards were presented in Madrid during the 3rd National Meeting of the Cultiva Program, with winners from Andalusia, Aragon, Cantabria, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha and La Rioja.

TWO ARAGON FARMS AMONG THE WINNERS

Luis Lascorz runs Eco Fes-Luis Lascorz, in Aínsa (Huesca), a farm dedicated to the organic production of forage crops and fruit trees, as well as extensive cattle farming. Julio Yagüe, meanwhile, heads Lares Miel Ecológica, in Ariza (Zaragoza), which focuses on the organic production of honey, propolis and wax.

Isabel Bombal, director general of Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-Food Training, said the awards highlight professionals’ commitment to training new generations. Their participation allows young people to learn about different approaches to farm management and exchange knowledge with those already working in the sector.

MORE THAN 750 YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN PART IN CULTIVA

Since it was created in 2020, the Cultiva program has received funding of nearly 9.5 million euros and provided training placements for more than 750 young people at over 500 model farms across Spain. The initiative offers practical training and guidance to help promote generational renewal in agriculture and livestock farming.

During the meeting, Bombal recalled that the Ministry is working on a set of measures to address some of the main barriers to entering farming, including training, financing and access to land. These measures aim to make it easier for new generations to enter the agricultural sector.
