Key measures have included the installation of fans, split-type air-conditioning units and awnings, which accounted for most of the investment. Resources have also been allocated to installing window louvers, solar-control films and vegetation to improve the thermal comfort of the facilities.
So far, 54 schools in Zaragoza (901,744 euros), 39 in Huesca (350,000 euros) and 23 in Teruel (345,854.23 euros) have benefited from the program. Of the two million euros invested, 1.6 million has gone toward thermal-comfort measures, while the remaining 400,000 euros has been allocated to upgrades to electrical installations.
Education Minister Carmen Susín explained this on Tuesday during a visit to CEIP Hermanos Marx to review the work carried out there. The minister said the “Classrooms that Breathe” program was here “to stay” and remains “constantly” open: “The aim is that, at least between now and June, most schools will have been able to implement the urgent measures, and that work will continue in second and third rounds because the heat is also here to stay and we have to respond.”
For the remainder of the year, a further three-million-euro allocation remains available to continue improving climate control in schools requiring urgent measures. “Budgets are beginning to be received and authorized by the schools,” Susín explained. In 2027, another allocation will be made to continue carrying out these measures in schools.
