From Michael Jackson to Monster High: These Are the Favorite Halloween Costumes for 2026

Halloween is no longer just about vampires, witches and monsters. This year's most popular costumes combine horror, nostalgia and pop culture: La Catrina leads among adults, Monster High dominates among children, and K-Pop Demon Hunters is emerging strongly among the latest trends.

That is reflected in demand data collected by the idealo.es price comparison site during the first weeks of October. The search trends show that classic horror icons remain very popular, but now share the spotlight with music legends, fantasy characters and retro styles.

Among women, La Catrina ranks first, ahead of disco costumes, the medieval princess, Maleficent and Morticia. Nostalgia is also gaining ground among men, with the jacket inspired by Michael Jackson's Thriller coming in second.

Classic horror, however, has not disappeared. Pennywise, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and the Joker remain among the most searched-for characters, showing that new trends do not necessarily replace the old favorites, but instead expand the options.

MONSTER HIGH AND K-POP AMONG CHILDREN'S FAVORITES

Among children, Monster High maintains a privileged position. Clawdeen Wolf tops the children's ranking, while Skelita Calaveras and Frankie Stein also appear in the top 10. Alongside them, characters such as Darth Vader, Elsa, Spider-Man, Buzz Lightyear and Hermione remain popular.

The main newcomer is Rumi, the protagonist of K-Pop Demon Hunters. The character places three different products among the 30 most in-demand children's items: a Golden Classic costume, a wig and a Deluxe version.

The shift in preferences also coincides with notable growth in Halloween as a time to buy costumes. According to idealo, demand in October rose by more than 920% between 2023 and 2025, compared with the 350% increase recorded during the Carnival period.
