Journalism focused on the territory and the realities of rural areas will take center stage at “Rooted Journalism: Connecting with the Countryside,” the next session in the “Media and Universities: Alliances for a Well-Informed Society” series. The initiative is organized by the University of Zaragoza’s Vice-Rectorate for Communication and Institutional Identity, together with the Vice-Rectorate for the Huesca Campus.

The event will take place next Thursday, October 29, at 11 a.m. in the conference room of the University of Zaragoza’s Huesca Vice-Rectorate and will be held in collaboration with Diario del Alto Aragón. Admission will be free until capacity is reached.

The opening session will be led by Carmen Marta Lazo, vice-rector for Communication and Institutional Identity at the University of Zaragoza; Marta Liesa Orús, vice-rector for the Huesca Campus; and Elena Puértolas Puértolas, director of Diario del Alto Aragón. The roundtable discussion will then begin, moderated by Alfredo Serreta Oliván, a senior lecturer at the Huesca Higher Polytechnic School. Participants will include Diario del Alto Aragón journalist María José Lacasta; Laura Zamboraín, Heraldo de Aragón correspondent in Jacetania and Alto Gállego; and Alberto Cebrián, founder and editor of Diario del Campo.

The program will conclude at 12:30 p.m. with a dialogue with the attending audience, which will be able to take part in an exchange of ideas about journalism and its connection with rural areas.

Through this series, the University of Zaragoza is opening a direct dialogue between academia and professional journalism, with the aim of analyzing the main ethical, technological and professional challenges facing journalism today. In this way, it is strengthening its commitment to a free and well-informed society through knowledge transfer, media literacy and the defense of rigorous, high-quality information. At the same time, it is consolidating its role as a leading forum for analyzing journalism in Aragon and building bridges with the professional sector.
