A technical meeting held Tuesday on extracurricular activities and trips outside schools, requested by unions, will allow the Education Department to gather questions, problems and proposals to improve current instructions as it continues refining future regulations.
Susín says only a “minimal” number of schools have suspended extracurricular trips

Education Minister Carmen Susín has recalled that the start-of-school-year instructions are voluntary and said the current aim is to identify any gaps that have emerged in their application. “We want to gather all those issues, problems, solutions and proposals for improvement with a view to future regulations,” she explained.

Regarding the response from schools, she said the number of schools and secondary schools that have fully or partially suspended these activities is “minimal” and that most teachers want to continue taking their students on trips. However, inquiries and proposals are arriving to resolve issues that have raised questions during these first few months.

The Education Department expects unions, given their presence in schools, to also help compile these issues so that improvements can be incorporated into the final regulations. The department has not yet specified when the new rules will be ready.
