Confusion at Delicias Station Over Delays Caused by Toledo Crash: "Taking a Train Is Very Frightening"

The train crash in Toledo early in the morning has also caused uncertainty at Delicias, where delays and cancellations have disrupted travel. Many people are waiting in the station’s lounges to find out whether they can reach their destination or will have to stay in Zaragoza.

One of those affected was Sara Luján, who was traveling to Seville, but her train never left. "I've been waiting here for four hours because they canceled everything before my train was due to depart. They refunded my ticket because the only option was to go to Madrid and then figure things out on my own," she said.

Traveling to Atocha was the only option put forward by the train companies, but another affected passenger, Ana Camas, also decided not to take it because being stranded in Madrid was hardly what she had expected. "I bought a plane ticket from Vitoria, and I'll go to Córdoba on Friday," she said.

THE INSECURITY OF TRAVELING

Unfortunately, this is not the first time an accident has occurred on the railway, and it is understandable that people feel unsafe. "There were delays, and then the news of the accident broke. We were left in shock because it has happened again, and it makes you afraid to travel. I feel very unsafe, and taking a train is frightening," Viviana Zafra said.

Several of those affected by the delays feel relatively fortunate, considering the circumstances, but the prevailing thought is to look for other ways to travel, whether by plane or even in their own cars. "All I can think about is getting back, and most likely I'll have to turn around and stay in a hostel," Luján concluded resignedly.
