Aragon detects more than 170 school bullying and suicidal ideation protocols since the start of the academic year

Since the academic year began on September 8, schools in Aragon have detected 52 new cases of school bullying and 120 students with suicidal ideation. These figures are joined by 25 cases related to gender-based and sexual violence and two involving the presence of youth gangs. The data were compiled by the Department of Education’s School Guidance and Coexistence team.

Compared with the previous academic year, Aragón recorded a total of 1,218 suicidal ideation protocols, compared with 847 the year before, and 593 school bullying protocols, 207 more than in 2024/25.

The evolution of suicidal ideation reflects a sustained increase since the 2021/22 academic year, when 409 protocols were recorded. The data also show a significant gender disparity: 70% of cases involved female students, with 735 protocols, compared with 377 recorded among male students.

In the case of school bullying, the highest incidence was concentrated between the 4th year of Primary Education and the 3rd year of Compulsory Secondary Education. Zaragoza accounted for 72% of cases, followed by Huesca, with 20%, and Teruel, with 10%. During the previous academic year, 170 protocols related to gender-based and sexual violence and 33 involving youth gangs were also recorded.

“ZERO TOLERANCE WITHIN 24 HOURS”

Since last spring, the amended school bullying protocol has been in force under the principle of “zero tolerance within 24 hours,” requiring schools to activate procedures in response to any reasonable indication within a maximum of one school day. The reform has also simplified the administrative process by reducing the number of required annexes from ten to four.

The Education Department is also maintaining the emotional well-being programs introduced last academic year. Rebién, which reached 4,125 students at 29 schools at the time, now operates in 63 preschool and primary schools. Meanwhile, Henka, which reached 5,613 students at 28 schools, will begin on November 10 at 41 secondary schools.

As a new development, the Educación Responsable program will also return this academic year, with a pilot project at five schools starting in January. In addition, the Aeducar platform will add a training course for families that same month on the responsible use of artificial intelligence, mobile devices and mental health.
