Biendicho took part in La Alfranca in a session for these professionals to analyze the summer’s wildfires. Between June 12 and September 13, Aragón recorded 244 fires, which affected 35,675 hectares of forest.
PREVENTING FIRES AND IMPROVING WORKING CONDITIONS
The minister pointed to two lessons from this campaign: the importance of caring for and managing forests to reduce fire risk, and the need for professionals to have suitable working conditions. He also called for better planning and organization of the firefighting operation.
During his speech, Biendicho explained that response capacity depends on preventive work as well as the resources available and the teams’ working conditions. For this reason, he linked the strength of the prevention and firefighting operation to the situation of its professionals.
KNOWLEDGE OF THE TERRAIN THAT HELPS PROTECT IT
Nature protection agents (APN) know the access routes, terrain characteristics and particular features of each area—important information when a fire breaks out. Their work also includes monitoring forests and rivers, protecting species and habitats, and maintaining contact with farmers, livestock breeders, hunters, mayors and local residents.
The meeting concluded the technical sessions organized by the department to review the 2026 campaign and share experiences that can help address future fires. Biendicho thanked the agents for their public service and their efforts during the most difficult moments of the summer, including extended shifts, urgent travel and complex decisions.
