This facility will be located on the area’s football pitches and will allow intense rainfall to be collected and temporarily stored. The contribution expands the agreement signed by Zaragoza City Council and the regional government on October 9, 2024.
A BASIN TO COLLECT RAINWATER
Environment and Tourism Minister Luis Biendicho highlighted the importance of preparing for such events and reducing the damage they can cause.
“We cannot prevent episodes of intense rainfall from occurring, but we can work to reduce their consequences,” he said. He also defended cooperation between public administrations to improve citizens’ safety and protect their property.
THE 2023 RAINS SHOWED THE NEED TO ACT
These measures are being promoted following the floods of July 6, 2023. That day, torrential rains produced more water than the ravine and drainage systems could evacuate.
The overflow caused flooding and property damage in the affected areas. Through these measures, both administrations aim to reduce the risk of those consequences happening again. The Government of Aragon’s funds will be channelled through Ecociudad, the municipal entity responsible for carrying out the work.
