Aragón unveils record €9,549 million budget for 2027 with increased investment in public services

Aragón will have a budget of €9,549.7 million in 2027, the highest in its history. Finance Minister Roberto Bermúdez de Castro presented the figures on Wednesday, which are €1 billion higher than those for 2024 and, he said, will strengthen the quality of public services thanks to the region’s economic growth.

The finance minister summed up the budget around three main objectives: tax cuts, improved public services and increased investment to drive growth. He also highlighted that 76% of the increase in the region’s own resources, a total of €1.139 billion, will be allocated to social policies.

TAX CUTS AND STRONGER PUBLIC SERVICES

Fiscal policy will be one of the cornerstones of Aragón’s 2027 budget. Measures planned include a 99% reduction in inheritance tax for Group II beneficiaries, as well as a 0.25% reduction in personal income tax for earners with incomes below €52,500. The budget also includes reductions in this tax for large families and in cases of birth or adoption, along with an 80% cut in regional fees.

By department, Education will receive €1.866 billion, 24% more than in the previous budget. Deregulation, Social Welfare and Family will have €548 million, an increase of 20%, while Health will reach €3.162 billion, 15% more. Housing, Public Works, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion will receive €343 million, representing an increase of 45%.

ECONOMIC GROWTH BEHIND BUDGET INCREASE

Bermúdez de Castro attributed the budget increase, particularly in the region’s own resources, to the sustained growth of Aragón’s economy. To support this assessment, he pointed to the 703,900 workers currently in the region, a historic high.

The minister also highlighted the €90 billion invested in Aragón, the reduction in debt as a share of GDP and the decline in the risk of poverty and social exclusion as indicators of the region’s economic progress.
