Aragon to Eliminate All Foreign Aid in 2027 with a Zero-Euro Budget

Aragon will allocate 0 euros to foreign aid in its 2027 Draft Budget. Vice President and Councillor Alejandro Nolasco confirmed this on Friday during his appearance before the Finance Committee to report on the Draft Budget Law of the Autonomous Community of Aragon for 2027.

Nolasco explained that "Aragon has a population of more than 300,000 older people, 18% of whom are aged 85 or over," along with "demographic indicators showing that the number of older people will continue to rise in the coming years." Consequently, Nolasco focused on "supporting our older people" and "not wasting money on foreign aid, which in many cases cannot even be audited to determine where the funds ultimately end up." He added that the elimination of foreign aid is "in compliance with the Government Pact and with the national priority."

NATIONAL PRIORITY

Regarding the national priority, the regional government’s vice president explained that it "has already been applied to aid published in the Official Gazette of Aragon for multiple births and to family-related projects"; a principle of action that "will be maintained in all calls for aid issued by the Department."

The vice president of the Government of Aragon highlighted the "tax cuts and tax deductions supporting families following the birth or adoption of a child." In cases of a recognized disability of at least 33%, the deduction amounts to €2,000 for the first child, €3,000 for the second child and €5,000 for large families. In addition, in cases involving disability, the deduction will be applied over the following three tax periods.

DEPENDENCY CARE

Investment in dependency benefits amounts to €145 million in the 2027 Budget, which will also entail a 7% increase in the amounts for Grade II and Grade III dependency. Nolasco stressed that "Aragon is one of the leading regions in Spain in terms of the proportion of applications approved out of the total submitted: 87%," while the figure is "78% in Catalonia and 73% in Navarre."

Likewise, the vice president stated that, according to data recorded as of September 30, 2026, Aragon is the autonomous community "leading the country in the speed of processing dependency cases, with an average waiting time of 109 days." This figure is "184 days below the national average, which stands at 293 days."

The Councillor for Deregulation, Social Welfare and Family highlighted "the importance of aid for people with ALS," because "it is the least we can do to guarantee their dignity and quality of life" in a context in which there is no cure for the disease. The call for aid for people with ALS living at home was published in July, while the regulatory framework and call for aid for those in residential facilities were published on October 30. The scheme has a budget of €195,000, with the amount available this year ranging from €9,859 to €19,718 per beneficiary.
