Zaragoza City Council Promotes Anti-Bullying Efforts in Sport Through Workshops and Case Studies

Zaragoza City Council, a member of the LALIGA Cities Network project, will promote the prevention of school bullying in sport through the workshop 'Detect, Prevent and Act: Responses to Bullying in Sport', taking place this Thursday, October 29, at 7 p.m. at the Teodoro Sánchez Punter Civic Centre in the San José district. The workshop will feature José Francisco Mendi, a member of the Official College of Psychology of Aragón, and Álex Sánchez, a former professional footballer who played for Real Zaragoza and became the first player with a disability to play in Spain's top flight after being born without a right hand due to a congenital condition.

Sports Councillor Félix Brocate, who will attend the session, highlighted the city's commitment to the initiative: "Zaragoza's collaboration with the LALIGA Cities Network is total. We are going to work on the workshops they have prepared and, in 2027, we will hold two more workshops and an important event to combat bullying, racism and other forms of violence in sport."

Those interested in taking part can register free of charge until tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28, through the Zaragoza Deporte website. The activity is aimed at people and organisations working with children and teenagers in sport and will last approximately 90 minutes.

TRAINING TO DETECT AND PREVENT BULLYING

The programme will address the identification of bullying and its manifestations in sport, the analysis of cases, knowledge of child and adolescent protection legislation, and action protocols for potential bullying situations. The session will also include Álex Sánchez's personal experience and content focused on preventing such behaviour.

The initiative is part of LALIGA VS BULLYING, one of the lines of action of the LALIGA VS platform, promoted by LALIGA and its Foundation to combat school bullying and promote safe, inclusive environments. Under the slogan 'A team leaves no one behind', the campaign draws on values associated with team sports, such as camaraderie, unity and sportsmanship, encouraging those who witness bullying to avoid remaining passive observers and to support victims.

Training and raising awareness among people who work with children and teenagers are important tools for recognising these situations and knowing how to respond. In this regard, the workshop will make it possible to analyse practical cases and learn about the intervention protocols applicable to sport.
