The Zaragoza village hosted the filming of this new project by Barbecho Productions from October 21 to 25. The company is once again turning to fantasy and horror with a mysterious story scheduled to premiere in the early months of 2027.
"It is a story that promises to send chills down many a spine. Perhaps some more than others, especially those who may feel connected to the story we are going to tell. They may even feel targeted in many specific cases. But this is only a short film; the last word belongs to our victims...: the viewers," the filmmaker acknowledges.
A HOUSE WHERE NOTHING IS WHAT IT SEEMS
The plot follows Julia and Juan, played by Vanessa Pámpano and Ángel Gotor, a young couple who arrive at a remote manor house in a small village surrounded by trees to carry out their work. The property once belonged to a psychologist who collected grotesque works of art created by some of his patients.
The peace does not last long. The pair begin to be harassed in their rooms by unknown presences and eventually turn to Joaquín, a character played by Rubén Martínez who is an expert on the creatures inhabiting the property. These creatures are given the name that provides the short film with its title: “Los Secundarios.”
A SHOOT SHROUDED IN SECRECY
Secrecy is one of the elements surrounding the project. Since preproduction, the team has sought to keep much of the story and filming details under wraps in order to preserve its twists and surprises. The short moves between fantasy and horror, a terrain already familiar to part of Daniel Calavera’s team.
The cast brings together several familiar faces from film and television. Alongside Rubén Martínez, Vanessa Pámpano and Ángel Gotor are Elisa Forcano, Jorge Desentre and Jorge Usón, performers with experience in both Aragonese and national productions.
FAMILIAR FACES AND AN ARAGONESE CREW
Rubén Martínez has appeared in titles such as Élite and Grupo 2 (Homicidios), while Jorge Usón has worked on productions including Voy a pasármelo bien and Galgos. Elisa Forcano, a recent winner of a Premio Max, is also part of the cast. On the technical side, Daniel Calavera is responsible for directing and writing, Manuel Buil serves as director of photography, and Pilar Sicilia handles art direction and costumes. The project also features Alfonso Millán, Jesús Larrodé, Eloy Rodríguez, Miguel Remiro and Andrés Bernad, among other professionals.
PREMIERE IN 2027
"Los secundarios" is supported by the Government of Aragon and made in collaboration with Pilar Sicilia, FMG, Factoría, Inevent, Asociación Flumes and Río Piedra. The premiere is scheduled for the early months of 2027.
