Four days of work have taken place at the CSMA’s Eduardo del Pueyo Auditorium, where the prestigious conductor has led the gathering’s rehearsals. During these days, more than 160 young musicians have shared the Conservatory’s facilities with teachers and students, in a program that has included open rehearsals for CSMA undergraduate students as well as several educational talks.

The activities are part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Venezuela’s National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs, known as "El Sistema," a project founded in 1975 that has established music-making as a driver of social inclusion. Gustavo Dudamel himself, who was trained within the institution, maintains a close relationship with the project and has conducted its ensembles on numerous occasions.

The gathering will conclude with a four-concert tour of Zaragoza, Alicante, Barcelona and Madrid, scheduled between November 1 and 5. The first stop on the itinerary will take place on November 1 at the Mozart Hall of the Zaragoza Princesa Leonor Auditorium, as part of the 32nd Great Concert Season.

This opening concert is being held after having been postponed twice: first in December because of the closure of the airspace, and later because of the earthquakes recorded in Venezuela on June 24.

The program set for this commemorative performance includes Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, ‘Leningrad,’ written during World War II and regarded as a universal symbol of resistance and hope.
