The spectacular appearance of a huge elephant on stage will undoubtedly be one of the musical’s most astonishing moments, as it is a technical and visual feat never before seen in a European theater. But the spectacle will not end there: appearances, disappearances and up to 20 major illusion and magic acts will follow, accompanied by live music, to reveal the "intense" character that Houdini was.
"It is undoubtedly the most difficult character I have played throughout my career and the biggest challenge. Not only because of everything that happens on stage, but also because of the pressure that comes with being the central figure in this musical and shouldering that responsibility at every performance. In addition to dancing, singing and performing magic, playing Houdini was something I was very excited about because of how intense this character is, his ambition and everything he carried inside," Pablo Puyol said in Zaragoza on Monday.
ZARAGOZA, FIRST STOP AFTER MADRID
Zaragoza will thus be the first stop after the musical’s world premiere in Madrid, where it has drawn more than 90,000 spectators. "Zaragoza is one of our flagship venues. We are also extremely excited to be in the city during the Fiestas del Pilar, given what that means for Zaragoza," explained María Eugenia Domínguez, communications director at Beon Entertainment.
"Houdini. A Magical Musical" is a co-production between Beón and Let's Go Producciones, featuring live music, spectacular lighting and surprising technical effects. But beyond that, the musical explores universal themes.
"What we wanted was to tell Harry Houdini’s story, from his childhood through the dismantling of the myth he became. It is a musical in which audiences will see universal themes such as love, ambition, fame and what happens when someone no longer has it," explained Ángela Gudino, touring manager at Let's Go Producciones.
The musical is directed by Federico Bellone, one of the leading names in musical theater, and is based on the book "The Impossible Man." Tickets cost around 60 euros, although some discounted tickets are available at lower prices.
