The assault attributed to him was reported on August 19 and took place near Avenida Ciudad de Soria. Officers then launched an investigation that led to the suspect being identified, according to a statement issued this Wednesday by the Higher Police Headquarters of Aragon.
However, according to police information, "after various reports about the sexual assaults being investigated in La Almozara appeared in the media," the man fled Spain. Investigators' efforts later enabled them to locate him in Germany and secure his return to Zaragoza, where he was eventually arrested and taken to police headquarters.
REMANDED IN CUSTODY
The arrested man was brought before Courtroom No. 1 of the Violence Against Women Section of the Zaragoza Court of Instance this Tuesday, which ordered his immediate remand in custody.
The arrest comes after several weeks of concern in La Almozara. ARAGÓN DIGITAL reported on August 20 on the circulation of a WhatsApp chain referring to an alleged "serial sexual assailant." Police confirmed at the time that the UFAM was investigating several complaints, but warned that there was no evidence that the different incidents were connected or had been committed by the same person. The concern subsequently led hundreds of residents to gather in the neighborhood to condemn the sexual assaults.
Therefore, the arrest announced this Wednesday does not allow the suspect to be linked to the other cases under investigation. The National Police only identify him as the alleged perpetrator of the sexual assault reported on August 19 near Avenida Ciudad de Soria and, to protect the victim and prevent further victimization, have not provided any additional details about the circumstances of the incident
