Most of the region's fatal traffic accidents were concentrated in Zaragoza, with eight deaths, two more than the previous summer. However, the sharpest change occurred in Teruel, which went from recording no fatalities in July and August 2025 to four this summer. Huesca, by contrast, moved in the opposite direction, with one death compared with two last year.
One of the summer's most tragic moments was the accident that occurred on August 17 on the N-122 between Bulbuente and Maleján, where four young people, all YMCA volunteers, lost their lives after a head-on collision between their vehicle and a truck. The victims were driving home after spending the weekend in Salduero (Soria), visiting their colleagues at one of the organization's summer camps. Another of the young people was seriously injured in the crash.
TWELVE OF THE THIRTEEN FATALITIES OCCURRED OUTSIDE MOTORWAYS AND DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS
The increase also has a particularly marked feature. Of the 13 people who lost their lives in Aragón, 12 died on interurban roads other than motorways and dual carriageways. That is five more than the previous summer, an increase of 71%. On motorways and dual carriageways, meanwhile, only one fatality was recorded, the same figure as in 2025.
This concentration of fatalities on conventional roads is even more pronounced in Aragón than across the country as a whole. Nationwide, 73% of victims were recorded outside motorways and dual carriageways, with 175 deaths, while high-capacity roads accounted for a further 65.
