Investigations were carried out by Judicial Police officers from the Centro and San José District Police Stations after a series of deliberate dumpster fires broke out repeatedly in recent months, some of which also affected vehicles parked nearby.
The recurrence of these incidents had caused significant alarm among residents, as well as an additional risk due to the proximity of the burning dumpsters to residential buildings, commercial establishments, schools and, in one of the affected locations, a gas station.
TWO INVESTIGATIONS
The first investigation was conducted by Judicial Police officers from the Centro District Police Station, who managed to link the suspect to at least three fires reported on June 10 and 30 and August 23, all in the vicinity of Paseo de la Mina.
The inquiries made it possible to identify the alleged perpetrator and arrest him on September 10. He was charged with three arson-related property damage offenses and released on bail with charges pending.
Meanwhile, Judicial Police officers from the San José District Police Station were investigating a series of fires reported on different days in August, mainly on Calle Lorenzo Pardo and its surrounding area.
The concentration of the fires in specific areas and time periods enabled investigators to identify the same alleged perpetrator. Finally, this Thursday, investigators arrested him again, attributing at least 10 arson-related property damage offenses to him in connection with the incidents under investigation in the area.
The detainee, who has nearly 30 prior police records, several of them related to similar incidents, was once again brought before the Court of Instance on duty and released on bail with charges pending.
