Huesca cemetery urgently needs expansion, PSOE says

Huesca’s PSOE is calling for the expansion of the municipal cemetery and improvements to its facilities. The Socialist Municipal Group denounces the lack of new niches and accuses Mayor Lorena Orduna of failing to plan the necessary measures to guarantee the service.
Huesca cemetery urgently needs expansion, PSOE says

The Socialists say that, after four years without building new niches, the City Council has had to resort to emergency procedures on public health grounds to prevent the lack of space from jeopardizing burials. “The current emergency is not the result of an unforeseen event: it is the result of four years of inaction,” says Roberto Cacho, who argues that the need for new burial units is periodic and requires planning.

PENDING CEMETERY RENOVATIONS AND EXPANSION

But the lack of management concerns not only the new niches, but also existing ones that have problems with their roofs and have not been upgraded either. In addition, other commitments made by the mayor regarding the municipal cemetery also remain unfulfilled, such as the space designated for Muslim community burials, approved by the Plenary in February 2025.

The Socialists consider this another example of Orduna’s way of governing, "based on announcements and promises, but without planning or results. Meanwhile, the real needs of an essential public service continue to pile up".

For this reason, the Socialist Municipal Group "demands that Lorena Orduna take responsibility and will present a motion at the next Plenary meeting so that all the renovations necessary to maintain the cemetery are carried out, its expansion is accelerated and Huesca is guaranteed sufficient capacity to provide this service normally", the Socialists conclude.
