The data also place Aragon as the autonomous community with the third-highest growth in retail sales in September, a month in which only four communities recorded positive rates. The month-on-month trend was also favorable: compared with August, sales increased by 2.7% in Aragon, while they fell by 0.3% in Spain, according to the original series.
The director general for SMEs, Self-Employed Workers, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs highlighted that “Aragon has doubled the national growth rate for retail trade over the past three years, a period that coincides with the launch of Volveremos.” Herrarte stressed the importance of “promoting policies that help our businesses sell more and encourage people in Aragon to shop in their neighborhoods and municipalities.”
Aragon’s retail sector continues to perform above the national average, supported by the daily efforts of thousands of businesses that compete, modernize and maintain activity in neighborhoods and municipalities, alongside policies introduced by the Government of Aragon to stimulate consumption and ensure that a larger share of spending remains in local businesses.
Employment trends also reinforce the sector’s strong performance, with year-on-year employment growth of 1.5% in Aragon in September, above the national average.
VOLVEREMOS GENERATES 10.5 MILLION EUROS IN SALES IN ITS FIRST WEEK
Volveremos, the Government of Aragon’s consumer incentive program aimed at boosting purchases from local businesses in 71 municipalities across the region, generated 10.5 million euros in sales during the first week of the campaign. As a result, the various Volveremos initiatives have accumulated 62.2 million euros in sales since June 2026.
Director General Carmen Herrarte said that “retail trade data show that Aragon is performing better than Spain as a whole.” Volveremos, she stressed, is part of this commitment to supporting our businesses, encouraging consumption and ensuring that a larger share of spending remains in our neighborhoods and municipalities.”
Herrarte also added that “generating 10.5 million euros in just a few days shows that, when useful policies are implemented and reach citizens directly, the response works.”
MORE THAN 3,000 BUSINESSES AND 136,000 USERS
The program currently includes more than 3,400 businesses and 136,000 users, and extends to 71 municipalities, including the three Aragonese capitals, which can run their campaigns through a shared infrastructure and adapt the incentives to their local circumstances.
“Good results do not happen by themselves. We must create the conditions for consumers to find incentives to shop here and for that economic activity to remain in Aragon. Volveremos shows that public authorities can implement useful economic policies, with results that reach our businesses and municipalities directly,” Herrarte concluded.
