The units that were in service made this symbolic stop in a coordinated operation from the Centralized Control Center (PCC), while ensuring safety conditions at all times.

The gesture joins the various expressions of condolence that have taken place throughout this Wednesday after the scale of the rail accident that occurred in Toledo province in the morning became known.

AT LEAST 68 DEAD IN THE ACCIDENT

The accident occurred this Wednesday at around 8.54 a.m. in Urda (Toledo), when a Renfe AVE train traveling between Madrid and Seville rear-ended an Iryo train that was stopped on the track. The Renfe train was carrying 397 passengers, while 147 people were traveling on the Iryo train.

The latest official death toll provided by Castilla-La Mancha President Emiliano García-Page puts the number of fatalities at 68, while work continues at the site and rescuers search through the wreckage of the carriages. In addition, 15 injured people are in very serious condition, along with dozens of others treated for injuries of varying severity.

High-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalusia remain suspended as a result of the accident. Both Renfe and Iryo have activated their emergency and assistance protocols for victims and relatives. The causes of the accident remain under investigation.

The stop made by Zaragoza's trams has thus become one of the expressions of remembrance and solidarity held this Wednesday in response to a tragedy that has shocked the country.
