Zaragoza cleaning strike ends amid 'staff demotivation'

The cleaning protests have ended due to "the evident demotivation of the workforce," as unions GGT and CC.OO. stated in an official communiqué. The indefinite strike planned for today to protest the European Green Capital designation has therefore been called off.

The data collected in Wednesday's vote show that most FCC Medio Ambiente workers chose not to cast a ballot. Of an estimated electorate of 1,200 workers, only 165 employees exercised their right to vote. The consultation count produced 129 votes in favor of continuing the protests, 15 against, 4 blank ballots and 17 invalid ballots.

"Given this low turnout and the lack of massive support from the workforce at the ballot box, CGT and CC.OO. have decided to halt the planned protests for the time being and wait for the workers themselves to determine the steps to follow from this point onward," the communiqué states.

RESPECT FOR THE WORKFORCE'S SOVEREIGNTY

The unions emphasize their absolute respect for the workforce's sovereignty. However, they have issued a strong warning, stating that they "will not sign the new collective agreement under the current terms and conditions proposed by the company management."

The union sections have stressed that they will maintain their roadmap to seek an agreement with the companies. The ultimate objective remains to secure decent working, social and economic conditions that enable workers to live better lives.
