Zaragoza Amusement Park Begins a New Era After Sale

Zaragoza Amusement Park begins a new era after eight months of disputes between its former partners, which kept the venue closed for the first time in its 52-year history. Argentine group Fénix Entertainment completed the purchase this Thursday of the business unit of Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza (PAZ), the company owned by businessman Jesús Morte that is undergoing liquidation, for €1.44 million. As part of the deal, Moncayo Leisure is now fully controlled by the new owner, which will manage the complex for the next 50 years.

The sale, authorized by the commercial court handling the insolvency proceedings, includes the rides, furniture, third-party contracts and the transfer of 64 employees. The new operator will take on a large part of the workforce, while the management team linked to the previous phase will leave the company. The proceeds from the transaction will be allocated to compensation for the insolvency estate, upgrades to the facilities and the continuation of employment contracts. The process is taking place as creditors claim more than €8 million, debts that, under the conditions established for the transfer, the new owner will not have to assume except in the cases expressly provided for.

The park closed on June 7, preventing Zaragoza from hosting some of its usual events this year, such as Oktoberfest and Halloween. Fénix Entertainment is now preparing to renovate the complex with an announced investment of €15 million over the next five years, with the aim of reopening in spring 2027. Before then, it must present the new design for the site to Zaragoza City Council, while the council plans to upgrade the surrounding area through a project that will expand the available space by five hectares in the Pinares de Venecia.
