The new 17,000-square-metre park connecting Oliver and Miralbueno is now under construction

Zaragoza has begun building a new park of more than 17,000 square metres in La Camisera, an area between the Oliver and Miralbueno neighbourhoods. The first earthworks have launched a project that will transform the site into a new green area with pedestrian paths, rest areas, children's play areas and spaces for outdoor dining. The project has an investment of 1.26 million euros.

The park will stretch between Antonio Leyva and Jerónimo Cáncer streets and will cover an area of 17,059 square metres. One of its aims will be to improve pedestrian connections in the area, with diagonal paths facilitating travel between the streets and nearby facilities, such as Los Ibones Municipal Nursery School, the Oliver Health Centre and the Oliver Community Centre.

A LARGE NATURAL SINKHOLE WILL BE THE PARK'S CENTREPIECE

One of the most distinctive features will be a natural sinkhole at the southern end of the site. Rather than filling in this depression in the ground, the project plans to preserve it and adapt it as a shaded picnic area, with tables and access paths. The idea is to make use of the landscape's natural configuration to create a rest area without major alterations or the introduction of vegetation requiring irrigation in this area.

The new park will also have a children's play area next to the school, equipped with multi-play structures, slides, rope bridges and swings, including adapted seats. This will be complemented by grass lawns, picnic tables, drinking fountains and street furniture. The planting of 70 trees will create new shaded areas, while LED lighting and drip irrigation will help reduce energy and water consumption.

The works have been awarded to Firmeza Solutions for 1,265,707.37 euros, including VAT, compared with an initial budget of 1.49 million euros. With this project, La Camisera will gain a new green space designed for walking and relaxation as well as play and community life, in an area that will benefit from improved pedestrian connections and new spaces for people to spend time.
