Restraining Order for Student Who Hit and Pulled Her Teacher’s Hair at Zaragoza School

A minor has been given a one-year restraining order after assaulting her teacher at a Zaragoza school last February. The student pushed, hit and pulled the teacher’s hair in an office as she tried to defend another student.

In addition to being banned from coming within 100 meters of the teacher, the student has been sentenced to eight months of supervised release and required to attend an educational program. This was announced by the CSIF union, which recently secured the ruling convicting the minor of assaulting her teacher.

The union welcomed the court ruling and once again called for more measures to protect teachers amid a rise in violent incidents at schools. “We are very concerned about the increase in assaults on teachers that we have witnessed in recent years,” said Gema Tomás, president of CSIF Education Aragón.

Last Thursday, the union sent a letter to Education Minister Carmen Susín following the assault suffered by another teacher at a school in Épila. In it, CSIF stressed the need to adopt urgent, specific measures to prevent and address such situations in schools.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO PREPARE SPECIFIC PROTOCOL

This Tuesday, the Education Minister met with the CSIF representative and, according to the union, the department will immediately begin drawing up a specific protocol to address assaults on teachers, a demand the organization says it has been making for years.

In addition, two psychological and legal support units for teachers affected by conflict or violence in schools are expected to be launched. These measures will be followed in January by a campaign to promote the dignity of the teaching profession.
