The protest was organized by the Jerónima Zaporta Neighborhood Association, which has promoted various actions in recent weeks amid fears that a healthcare service with more than 50 years of presence in the neighborhood could continue to be scaled back. Among their main demands, residents are calling for stable and sufficient medical care throughout the week.
FEWER HOURS AND MORE DOCTOR ROTATION
The group denounces that the clinic is operating with a “constant rotation of professionals” from the Torre Ramona Health Center and reduced hours depending on staff availability. According to the residents, from August 18 to September 11, care has been limited to the period between 8:15 and 11:00 a.m., while the clinic even closed for two days last July.
The association believes this situation particularly affects chronic patients and older people. “The constant rotation of professionals and the insufficient hours of care prevent proper monitoring of medical conditions,” they denounce, while also warning of possible delays in diagnoses, treatment reviews or medication adjustments.
CONCERN AMONG OLDER RESIDENTS
One of the main problems they highlight is having to travel to Torre Ramona when they cannot be seen in their own neighborhood. For many older residents, they point out, having to travel to this center creates an additional difficulty and reduces access to a service they consider essential.
The Jerónima Zaporta Neighborhood Association also recalls the changes experienced by the Pediatrics service, whose care, they say, was gradually reduced until it had practically disappeared. Residents fear that something similar could happen with the Family Medicine clinic and are calling on the Aragon Government for better planning and sufficient staffing to ensure continuity of care.
