Iryo crew's onboard announcement shared online by a woman from Zaragoza: "We are very sad"

Wednesday's railway tragedy in Toledo also cast a shadow over train journeys throughout the day. On one of the Iryo trains that left Zaragoza for Madrid in the afternoon, the crew addressed passengers to thank them for their understanding during a situation that was also affecting employees. The message, recorded and shared on social media by Marta García from Zaragoza, better known as "La Chica del Zapato Naranja", has drawn attention for the candor with which the employees explained how they were feeling.

"Thank you for your respect and empathy on such a difficult day for us," the onboard announcement begins. One of the crew members then asks passengers for their understanding: "Please understand that if we are not as friendly or as cheerful as usual today, it is because we are also very sad." The announcement ends with thanks to the passengers for their attitude during the journey.

The woman known as La Chica del Zapato Naranja explained in her post that she was traveling to Madrid with Carnicería Hermanos Pueyo to do a radio interview, but that the day's events affected the trip. "You could feel it in the carriage, in people's faces and in the silence," she wrote. Although they had recorded the interview, she acknowledged that they did not feel able to share what they had experienced at that moment.

A MESSAGE SHARED ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The woman from Zaragoza said she wanted to share the crew's words because of the treatment she has usually received from Iryo staff. "I have always highlighted the kindness and affection with which Iryo staff have treated us," she said in the text accompanying the video, which has already received more than one million views.

The post concludes with a message of support for those directly affected by the railway accident: "All our affection to the victims' families, and much strength to the injured."
