People’s Party Secretary-General Miguel Tellado held a news conference on Monday at the party’s national headquarters on Madrid’s Génova Street to explain the terms of the agreement, negotiated in recent days with Vox Deputy Secretary-General Montserrat Lluís.
VOX WILL NOT RUN IN SIX PROVINCES
Vox will not run in six provinces: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Cádiz, Valencia, Castellón and the Balearic Islands. In these territories, the People’s Party will “include an independent candidate proposed by Vox” on its lists.
Secondly, the People’s Party will not run in the provinces of Guipúzcoa, where it “has failed to win a senator for 26 years,” or in Girona and Tarragona, “where it has never in democratic history” secured representation in the upper chamber.
Thirdly, Vox will field a single Senate candidate in 14 provinces: Seville, Huelva, Asturias, Badajoz, Álava, Navarre, Cáceres, Huesca, Zaragoza, Alicante, Granada, Cuenca, Pontevedra and Jaén. Thus, “alongside the three People’s Party candidates and Vox’s candidate, Vox voters will have the option of choosing Vox’s candidate and, additionally, two candidates from the People’s Party ballot,” Tellado explained.
