PP presents its Teruel candidates for Congress and Senate for November 29

The People's Party presented its candidates in Teruel for the Congress of Deputies and the Senate on Monday for the general election on November 29. The party aims to bring the province's municipal management experience and demands to Madrid, particularly regarding depopulation, infrastructure and business operating aid.

The mayor of Calanda and current national MP, Alberto Herrero, will once again occupy the top spot on the Congress list, accompanied by Raquel Clemente and Mario Latorre. Meanwhile, Teruel Mayor Emma Buj heads the Senate list alongside Carlos Boné and Celia Durbán. The presentation was also attended by the president of the PP in Aragon, Jorge Azcón.

Buj, the party's provincial president, described the list as a candidacy "from Teruel for Teruel" that combines "experience and youth," traceability and management. All the lead candidates are mayors and, she emphasized, they know firsthand the problems facing municipalities and the consequences of applying the same legislation in territories with very different realities. "We want to bring that experience from the rural world to the Upper and Lower chambers," she said.

THE PP FOCUSES ON MUNICIPAL EXPERIENCE

Herrero highlighted precisely this knowledge of the territory as one of the candidacy's main arguments. "We are not coming to learn about the problems; we have lived through them, faced them and often solved them in our municipalities," he said. The candidate also announced a campaign in which the PP intends to visit all 236 municipalities in Teruel province, "door to door," to explain its platform and listen to residents.

Among the main demands the party wants to take to Madrid, Herrero cited operating aid for businesses, whose implementation he considers insufficient, as well as various pending infrastructure projects. In this regard, he mentioned the A-68, N-330, A-40 and A-25, in addition to the Cantabrian-Mediterranean rail corridor and the connection between Teruel and Sagunto. He also called for progress on the Mudéjar de Andorra junction and the lateral reservoirs of the Matarraña.

Jorge Azcón insisted that the fact that the candidates are mayors demonstrates, in his view, that they have "proven experience" in solving problems. The president of the Aragonese PP called on those running on the lists to speak mainly about Teruel during the campaign and identified depopulation as one of the key issues for the next legislative term.

DEPOPULATION, INFRASTRUCTURE AND FUNDING

Azcón also identified operating aid, the Mudéjar junction and the Cantabrian-Mediterranean corridor as priorities. Regarding regional financing, he again defended giving depopulation weight in the future model for distributing resources and called for decisions made by the central government to take into account the specific circumstances of provinces such as Teruel.

The PP's provincial president also argued that the candidacy seeks to bring the "rural world's perspective" to Madrid and said its members know the province without needing an election campaign to arrive. Buj stressed that the goal is for Teruel to have a stronger presence in decisions made in Congress and the Senate and for its demands to be reflected in laws and the General State Budgets.

The PP is aiming to repeat the result it achieved in the province in the 2023 general election, when it won two seats in Congress and three in the Senate. Buj acknowledged that this is the party's goal for November 29 and defended the importance that small constituencies such as Teruel can have in the overall election result.
