Those who will not vote in person can request a postal ballot until November 19, inclusive. The request can be made at a Correos office or online. Election documents will be sent between November 9 and 22 and, once received, the postal ballot must be returned no later than November 25. In addition, anyone who requests this option will no longer be able to vote in person at their polling station.
The other major question is when people will find out whether they have been selected to serve on a polling station. Presiding officers, polling station members and their substitutes are chosen through public draws held by local councils. The law stipulates that these draws must take place between the 25th and 29th days after the election is called, meaning they will be held between October 31 and November 4 for this election.
This does not mean that everyone selected will find out on the same day. The appointment must be notified in person within the three days following the draw, so notifications will begin to arrive during the first days of November, depending on when each local council holds its draw. The appointment may be as presiding officer, polling station member or one of the two substitutes assigned to each member of the station.
Serving on a polling station is mandatory, although those with valid grounds may request an exemption. They have seven days from receiving the notification to submit their objections to the relevant Electoral Board, which must decide on them within five days.
