Fernando Beltrán on housing: “While the PSOE proposes solutions, the PP blocks them”

The PSOE has placed access to housing at the center of its electoral platform and accused the Government of Aragon of rejecting national measures that could facilitate the construction of affordable homes. Fernando Beltrán, the Socialist candidate for Congress in Zaragoza, criticized Jorge Azcón’s executive for not applying the tools provided for under the national Housing Law, leaving Aragon excluded from a €180 million allocation.
Fernando Beltrán on housing: “While the PSOE proposes solutions, the PP blocks them”

Beltrán made these criticisms during a meeting held in San Juan de Mozarrifar, where he appeared alongside the neighborhood's mayor, Erika Fuertes. The candidate defended the idea that Pedro Sánchez's government would keep access to decent housing among its priorities and contrasted the Socialists' proposals with the PP's policies. "While the PSOE proposes solutions, the PP blocks them. And Aragonese people are paying the price for this confrontation," he said.

The Socialist politician warned of the difficulties young people face in becoming independent and developing their life plans, particularly in neighborhoods such as San Juan de Mozarrifar. "In neighborhoods like San Juan de Mozarrifar, young people are forced to leave the place where they grew up because they cannot find housing. And meanwhile, what does the PP do? Instead of taking responsibility, it devotes itself to confronting Pedro Sánchez," he said.

CRITICISM OF AZCÓN'S HOUSING POLICY

The candidate recalled that the autonomous communities have key powers in housing and criticized the Aragonese government for not declaring stressed residential market areas or responding to mayors' requests for this measure. In his view, this decision has left Aragon excluded from the €180 million included in the national allocation.

"Azcón puts his political interests ahead of the needs of Aragonese people and leaves Aragon out of the national allocation of €180 million because it has no declared stressed areas," Beltrán said. He also questioned the regional government's decision to raise the maximum prices for subsidized housing, which, he said, have increased by nearly 25% in two years. "The PP is managing to make subsidized housing cost practically the same as housing on the open market," he denounced.

In response to these decisions, Beltrán defended the measures promoted by the central government, from the Housing Law to the mobilization of European funds to promote new affordable rental housing. In this regard, he recalled that Zaragoza Vivienda developments receive European funding channeled through Pedro Sánchez's government.

29N: TWO MODELS OF COUNTRY

During the meeting, the Socialist candidate said that the general election next November 29 would be decisive because, he argued, two models of country and the future of public policies are at stake. Beltrán said the PSOE would continue to regard housing as a matter of state and maintain measures aimed at expanding the supply of affordable homes and facilitating young people's independence.

He also highlighted Pedro Sánchez's government record in other areas, such as employment, pensions, wages and social protection. The candidate argued that these public policies help improve families' living conditions.
